My journey with Pilates began in
Pilates mat class in the dance studios at Appalachian State University. As a
dance major, I decided to enroll in the semester long class to strengthen my
core muscles and increase flexibility. I was amazed at how much stronger I
became as a dancer and aware of the power of the mind to control the body. The
most important lesson that I learned was to find balance both on and off of the
mat in my daily life.
Seeking to further my knowledge
of Pilates and share my love of Pilates with others, I decided to pursue
certification. I am a Third Generation Classical Pilates instructor in a
lineage descending from Romana Kryzanowska, who was the protégé of Joseph Pilates,
creator of the Pilates method. I trained
comprehensively in both Pilates mat and equipment. I
have worked with a range of fitness levels and age groups, including collegiate
athletes, dancers, runners, and individuals recuperating from various injuries. I incorporate my experience as a counselor
to meet each student where they currently are in their wellness journey.
I have been practicing Pilates since 2010, and I've been teaching Pilates since 2013.
